Web3 Glossary

Also, Web3 is a new “world” for many of us. The language sometimes also differs from what we use in the Web2 business environment. Every week we will highlight three words that are frequently used. You also have a “complete” Glossary here

STAKING- refers to pledging your crypto-assets as collateral for blockchain networks that use the PoS (Proof of Stake) consensus algorithm. It involves holding a cryptocurrency asset in a designated wallet for a specified period to earn rewards in the form of more of the same cryptocurrency or other assets.

YIELD FARMING- allows you to earn passive income by depositing crypto into a liquidity pool. It´s a process where users lock up their cryptocurrency assets in smart contracts called liquidity pools to earn rewards in the form of interest, governance tokens, or other rewards.

LIQUIDITY MINING- focuses on providing liquidity to the DeFi protocol. In exchange for the trading pair, liquidity mining protocol provides users with a Liquidity Provider Token. It´s the process of providing liquidity to a decentralized exchange (DEX) or other liquidity pool to earn rewards in the form of additional cryptocurrency or governance tokens.

THE MAIN DIFFERENCES between staking and yield farming/liquidity mining is that staking is focused on earning rewards for holding and validating transactions on a blockchain network, while yield farming and liquidity mining are focused on providing liquidity to decentralized exchanges and liquidity pools to earn rewards.

The risks associated with staking, yield farming, and liquidity mining include smart contract vulnerabilities, impermanent loss, market volatility, and liquidity risks.

It is essential to research and understand the risks associated with each activity before participating in DeFi.

Choosing between staking, yield farming, and liquidity mining depends on individual goals, risk appetite, and investment horizon.

It is also important to consider the fees associated with each activity, as they can affect overall profitability.

Overall, DeFi offers a range of opportunities for investors to earn rewards, but it is crucial to approach each activity with caution and do thorough research before investing.
